A spreadsheet stores a control's status in a cell. ATLAS stores it as a node with edges to the systems that inherit it, the scans that tested it, the artifacts that prove it and the person who owns it. That changes what a question costs. "Which systems does this finding touch?" is one hop, not a filter across four tabs. "What proves AC-2?" returns the artifact and its SHA-256, not a filename someone typed. And when a scan changes a system's state, every control that depends on it changes with it. The record updates itself instead of waiting for the next spreadsheet refresh.
